Staff Picks and Best Sellers

Players begin by simultaneously rummaging through the common warehouse, frantically trying to grab the most useful component tiles to build their spaceship — all in real-time.

Once the ships are launched, players encounter dangerous situations while vying for financial opportunities, each hoping to gain the most valuable cargo and finish with as much of their ship still intact as possible.

The goal is to survive the trek — hopefully with at least some of your crew and ship intact — and have at least one credit by the end of the game.

  • The chaos and destruction of this game is fantastic and this new edition has tons of value!

Play as mutant monsters, gigantic robots, and strange aliens—all of whom are destroying Tokyo and whacking each other in order to become the one and only King of Tokyo.

The fiercest player will occupy Tokyo, and earn extra victory points, but that player can't heal and must face all the other monsters alone!

  • Love rolling a fist full of dice

  • It's like Yahtzee but you get to play as giant monsters and fight your friends.

Star Realms is easy to learn, especially if you’re familiar with deck-building games, but takes time to master. Each time you play, the game is filled with various strategic decision points. Should I take the best card for me or the best card for my opponent? Should I focus on taking cards of a particular faction or on taking the best card available? Should I be focusing on acquiring more Trade or more Combat? Should I attack my opponent’s Base or their Authority? These are just some of the many choices you’ll be faced with. New players needn’t agonize over these choices just to play, but as they become more advanced players, they will find this depth of strategy leads to great replayability.

  • Dominion meets Magic: The Gathering and it's set in space. Each card represents a ship or space station that you buy to build your fleet and defeat your opponent.

Dune Imperium

It's a worker placement game that can be won in many ways. It is well balanced and competitive in many different levels. Also, love how the battle is a simple numbers game, not luck based. - Nolan

Scythe

Scythe is an engine-building game set in a 1920s era, alternate-history. It is a time of farming and war, broken hearts and rusted gears, innovation and valor. In Scythe, each player controls one of five factions of Eastern Europe, all of which are attempting to earn their fortunes and claim their stakes in the land around the mysterious Factory. Players conquer territory, enlist new recruits, reap resources, gain villagers, build structures, and activate monstrous mechs.

  • It combines well-refined mechanics, a 4X play-style, and excellent art into a game that feels polished and exciting. One of my personal top five games of all time.

Smash Up

The "shufflebuilding" game Smash Up begins with a simple premise: take the 20-card decks of two factions, shuffle them into a deck of forty cards, then compete to crush more Bases than your opponents!

Why James likes it:

Such a fun game! The different factions' playstyles makes every game unique.
